Ask HN: Reddit Alternative?
Im looking for a forum for more non-tech light-hearted discussion.
Reddit has become annoying to the point where if you make jokes that are even a little bit "violent", your account gets suspended.
What do you guys use. Is Lemmy any good?
It just feels like old web has died, only things left are Youtube, Amazon, here, X,and… I guess thats it. Its boring to be online now it feels like. Facebook, Insta, snap, reddit, google search, netflix, hbo they all feel like they’re dying sometimes a heartbeat comes from the, here and then, but you know there’s no hope for them long term.
The new medium starts out imitating the old medium, and the old web was still part of the old literary age. That age is behind us. Now we march to the beat of the tribal drums.
My theory is that smartphones pushed people into only consuming since it's annoying to write long texts on a phone.
So you are only left with egomaniacs, spam, and old people on PC.
Definitely something to this. I think that’s why so many social media platforms are entirely image/video based because that’s easier on the phone.
More microblogging than a forum, but I have been really loving Bluesky for non technical discussions.
A small-to-mid-sized group of people you have come to know (IRL or online), between a dozen and maybe fifty members, has bee a sweet spot for me.
Or: Metafilter.
Tildes has been reasonable. It's not gotten dragged down to Reddit's depths of depravity and uselessness, though it doesn't rise much above it either.
You're probably looking for the feeling of old-school Forums. So nowadays probably Discord servers?
Also... what on earth did you possibly comment to get banned from Reddit as a whole, and not just from a subreddit?!
I sit on several classic (regular) forums, the kind that were popular in the 00s
